And so there finally going to do it, this band lost in the mists of time who have become this great myth, have finally got back together and are doing 3 dates in a big field in Manchester to start, yes im talking about The Stone Roses, the band who would never ever get back together!
And the chattering twitter classes have got really excited about this, as obviously a lot of people have never seen them play and have only heard the fantastic first album (take a bow john leckie) and the very patchy 2nd album which took years to make!
I saw them the first time round and as much as i loved the records and i did i did! the band live were pretty crap to be honest, i certainly wont be going to see them especially in a big field, why oh why has it become the norm to have a reunion and play in a big field i know its to maximise profits but for the paying punter its crap come on admit it its not a patch on seeing a band in a small venue, come on admit it you cant actually see the band just the video screens and everybodys camera phones held high!
But you want to go so go and afterwards you can tell everyone you were there and they were great.
This reunion thing just dont do it for me,ive commented on the punk rebellion festival and been slated and i expect to be slated about this piece too, ive been told i would of gone if the clash had reformed and i would of done but not in a field to watch a video screen, im lucky that the clash did not reform, unlike the sex pistols who became a pantomime in the end, a shame really as they really had the general public and the powers that be shit scared in 77, but at least when the pistols did reform and asked why they were honest enough to say it was for the cash, unlike the rest of these bands having reunions whos reasons range from unfinished business, to wanting to uplift everybody, to its just magical, sorry its all about cash and good luck to them but please be honest and say so,and the roses deserve the money as they were well shafted by silvertone in the past, but please not another greatest hits package!
I think the myth will be broken once they play as Malcolm Mclaren said in the great rock n roll swindle do not play do not give the game away.
All thats left is nostalgia for the good old days and the good old bands, how we mocked the teds in 76/77 for listening to rock n roll still elvis etc but the future generations have become worse always looking back never forward, music and rebellion has been watered down to these massive reunion gigs. Enjoy!
Why dont people create new music rather then always looking to the past?
my fave roses song! ian sounds nothing like this!
Swindle its a swindle!
CASH FROM CHAOS!
